Lip Blushing
Pre/Post Appointment Care

Before Your Appointment

There are a couple factors that can impact scheduling your appointment. First, it’s important to avoid scheduling the appointment while you’re on your menstrual cycle. Avoid the 5 days before and after your period as well. Next, if you have had a cold sore in the past – we advise you to visit the doctor for an anti-viral medication. This will help avoid an outbreak. While this is optional for clients without an outbreak, it is recommended for all clients to take L-Lysine 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks following to reduce any risk. Lastly, having dry lips can may require us to reschedule your appointment. In order to make sure your lips are properly hydrated, we strongly recommend using the following schedule:

A Week Prior:

Moisturize lips as much as possible – Aquaphor is recommended.

3 Days Prior:

Exfoliate – this can be done using a homemade scrub with a little honey and brown sugar. This should be applied and used to remove any dry skin.

Hydrate! Drink at least 2 liters of water a day throughout the days leading up to your appointment.

24 Hours Prior:

Do not consume any alcohol, Aspirin, caffeine or coffee.

After Your Appointment

Your lips will feel swollen and very dry after the appointment.  Applying ointment on your lips several times a day over the next 14 days is very important as allowing the lips to dry can interfere with the healed color. As you’re applying the ointment, make sure you use a clean Q-Tip rather than your finger and tap as you apply, rather than rub in.

Once your lips are no longer tender to the touch, they may become flakey. This is a normal reaction, and it is important not to pick at or scratch your lips during this time as this can reduce the amount of pigment absorbed.

Throughout this time it is important to avoid tanning beds, direct sun exposure, direct water pressure, pools and other bodies of water. Other items to avoid would be oily, salty, acidic foods or alcohol. You should avoid any friction to the lips. Once your lips are fully healed, be sure to use sunblock regularly. Any products used on lips should not contain glycolic, hydroxy or fruit acid. You can resume wearing lipstick once lips are fully healed.

Lips typically heal in 3 stages – too dark, too light and just right and takes about one month to happen. Please be patient with your results!

Risks and Maintenance

The lips are a muscle and as such, may require a touch-up session to complete the process of this procedure. Lips are unpredictable and there may be variations in the amount of color that presents upon being healed. This can vary for clients with sun damage, scar tissue (from injury or fever blisters), or implants.  A retouch must be scheduled 30-45 days apart from initial session to help with color retention.

Micropigmentation is not safe for individuals who are:

  • Pregnant or nursing
  • Diabetic
  • Undergoing Chemotherapy
  • Currently afflicted with a viral infection
  • Had an organ transplant
  • Epilepsy
  • Have recently used Accutane
